Gerhard Schroeder, the outgoing German Chancellor, gave an emotional farewell speech to his supporters today. Schroeder was replaced by conservative leader Angela Merkel as the leader of a right-left collation government. Schroeder has presided over an unprecedented period of German decline marked by higher and higher levels of unemployment, flat economic growth and a growing rift with its former ally, the United States. The leftist leader sought to usher in a left leaning government that has drained Germany’s once innovative drive, turning the country into nothing more than a faltering socialist state and a fraction of its former self. As conditions began to worsen in Germany Schroeder did like most failed politicians do. He looked for someone to blame. And just like the poor in this country, he chose to blame a success (i.e., the United States) during his last reelection bid in 2002, he turned his campaign into I hate America tour. Schroeder pulled a Mussolini and successfully diverted attention away from his failed economic policies and focused attention on George Bush and the United States as objects of disdain. As a result, no one in his or her right mind can consider Germany an ally; indeed, China could be regarded as a more trustworthy ally than Germany. In any case, Schroeder, now tossed out in a political shuffle in Germany has taken one last swipe at the US and Britain. Apparently the US is responsible now for his electoral defeat. Schroeder derided British and American economic models as having no place in Germany. In other words, they prefer unemployment and stagnation to prosperity and growth. Schroeder also criticized the US government for its Katrina response, as if that had anything to do with the German elections or his current status as ex-Chancellor. The shrill politician clearly demonstrated his personal hatred and bias toward America (not that we should be surprised), which shows the lengths to which the left will go to undermine America and disparage its people. The Germans, Europe and the world are better off to have one less deficient demagogue of a politician to deal with.
