In what is perhaps the biggest shocker in the history of world events, French transport workers declared a 24 hr strike today, causing significant difficulties for commuters and school children. Remember we are speaking of France where a 40hr workweek is a 4-letter word and personal responsibility is as foreign a concept as is innovation and hard work. So what are the French workers protesting this time? Well as it happens they are upset because Prime Minister de Villepin has proposed a serious of reforms to jumpstart the long stagnant French economy. What upsets the labor unions most is a proposal that would make it easier for firms to dismiss workers. Why do you suppose these unions are upset over this proposal? Well naturally it’s because French workers are unproductive and inefficient. Sloth is one of the principle reasons for French economic decline. Think about it this way. How hard would you work and how good a worker would you be if you knew that you couldn’t be fired no matter how poor your performance or how much you slacked off? Be honest. Exactly! And that’s exactly how efficient the French worker is, no wonder there is double-digit unemployment and zero economic growth. French firms simply can’t afford the risks and as a result France as a whole as become the poster child for leftist inefficiency and stagnation, a by-product of an entitlement mentality, which dictates that it is the government’s duty to provide for every citizen and individuals are absolved of any and all personal responsibility. In spite of the inconvenience for the populace, most citizens supported the strikers; they too have an entitlement mentality. Indeed, this mentality has been engrained into the French Psyche for decades. So much so that when the economy falters, as it has today, the French take to pulling a Mussolini and blame anything and everyone else for their plight, except themselves.
