Yesterday we posted an article on strip clubs. That article had two basic points: 1. government should not be in the business of dictating whether or not such businesses can exist and 2. regardless of this, those who patronize such facilities are symbolic of this country's slide into depravity and such patrons lack basic moral values, while demeaning women. This article seems to have struck a cord with some, prompting the following response from a reader:

I disagree with your article. Visiting is not a sign of no morals and it is not degrading women. Those girls enjoy what they do and make a lot of money doing it. Some are career women and some are just doing it to pay off college. As far as the wife being a slave to the man no way. I think it is healthy for guys to go off doing stuff like that on their own. Male bonding is good thing. And visiting only would make you more appreciative of the wife you have at home. Heck, some wives have even been known to go there with their husbands.

In response to the reader, we must respectfully disagree. It doesn't matter why they [strippers] do it or how much fun they have. A prostitute or even a drug dealer can go to college and have fun too. If people want to take drugs or sell their bodies that's their own personal choice and shouldn't be a matter for the state (unless they infringe upon the rights of others). The point is such behavor is a sign of our diminished moral values. Why its done is of no consequence. There simply is no way a married man can go to a strip club and ogle over a stripper and lust after that woman and think that his actions will have no bearing on his marriage. Yes men can (and should) do things with other men (male bonding, if you will) but why does such "bonding" have to be sexual in nature? It would be no different if he jumped on stage and had sex with the woman, either way he is cheating on his wife. This doesn't help a marriage, if anything the man will fantasize about the woman while with his wife, he won't appreciate his wife more (unless the stipper is truly repulsive, in which case one would assume she wouldn't be hired). These women are sex objects, pure and simple, to be lusted over. If they are not then every father in America should have no problem with their daughters doing this for a living. In fact these morally debased women should come to schools for career day.
