Jail all child molesters for life….

How many times have we seen it this year alone? There have been countless examples of child molesters and sexual predicators attacking children after serving time in the penal system. How many children must be victimized before states enact tougher sentences for these depraved predicators? There is absolutely no justifiable reason to release these people. A registry is insufficient. Even if these convicts do register on the various lists across the country, that doesn’t stop a crime from happening, it only gives police a lead during their investigation, which is unacceptable.
It is clear that these people have not been “rehabilitated.” If that were the case, then there would be no need for a sex offender registry in the first place. Yesterday, Joseph Smith became only the latest example of failed policies regarding sexual predators as the Florida jury hearing his case, recommended death for his brutal rape and murder of 11-year-old Carlie Brucia. Frankly, death is far too generous for this individual. Even so, there is no guarantee Smith will ever be put to death with years of appeals ahead of him; he may even outlive Brucia’s parents, further demonstrating how the death penalty fails as a deterrent.
In the case of Smith and so many others, a deterrent would not have been necessary if the system functioned properly. At the time of the assault and murder, Smith was in violation of his probation, yet the “judge” refused to uphold the law and return this psycho to prison. Under no circumstances should a rapist or murderer ever see the light of day, especially when that rape and/or murder involves a child. Sadly, leftists will argue for the rights of criminals but who will speak for the victims and who will speak for society at large?
