The Bush administration just announced a deal giving an Arab company, based in UAE, management over six major U.S. seaports. The ports include: New York, Philadelphia, Baltimore, Miami, and New Orleans. The announcement, naturally has sparked outraged amongst the left and the right.

In yet another example of the gross incompetence on the part of the Bush administration, the President has allowed the Democrats to seize another opportunity to lambaste him in the press. Without hesitation, the likes of Chuck Schumer and Hillary Clinton have been given a golden opportunity to champion themselves as tough on terror. While their motives may be questionable, the objections of Democrats and Republicans alike are no-less valid. How could the president engage in such a risky maneuver that so blatantly compromises US Security? Only this very morning, the president referred to this region of the world as volatile with governments hostile to the United States.

On the flip side, proponents of the deal have argued that opposition to the deal is nothing more than politics and accuse opponents of racism. Is it racism, no, but it is pragmatic. When it comes to global terror, the vast majority of its perpetrators are either Arab or Muslim, indeed one of the 9/11 hijackers hailed from the UAE. Further more, UAE citizens have been implicated in numerous terrorist acts and Al Qaeda has been known to operate in the country.

Once again the president has a lot of explaining to do. Never before in history has an administration been more self-destructive than George W. Bush
