Today, the president highlighted the fact that US and allied intelligence forces have thwarted numerous terror attacks since September 11, 2001. These attacks include several attempted hijackings and attacks on historic sites and prominent buildings on the east and west coast as well as in other parts of the world. Contrary to the leftists in this country and around the world. The terror threat has not subsided with the passing of 9/11.

The forces of radical Islam are as committed today as they were in 1972, 1982, 2002 or 622 for that matter. Their goal is the subjugation and/or destruction of non-Muslims. There are numerous examples of this each and every day. There is no doubt that the many thwarted terror attacks Bush outlined is only the tip of the iceberg. These radicals have made it clear, that they are committed to carrying out armed struggle against the forces of freedom and all those who differ from themselves. The ongoing furor over the highly accurate Muhammad cartoon is symbolic of that threat.

Radical Islam’s contempt for freedom is such that these thugs have rampaged across the Middle East in a wave of destruction in “protest” over the publication of these offensive cartoons. Such is the immaturity, intolerance and hatred of radical Islam. Can one imagine even the most devout of Jews rampaging from town to town in protest of an offensive cartoon or Christians up in arms over a cartoon disparaging to Christ? This is the reality of the Islamic threat. Those who differ are targets and no matter how great or insignificant the offense an excuse will always be made for violence.

Ben Laden and his cronies frequently claim in their cave broadcasts (and so too does the left) that the terror war would be over if Bush would withdraw from Iraq. Such a premise discounts the fact that the terror war began before Iraq and before Bush’s presidency. Clerics from Tehran, to London to Baghdad have spoken this reality in their own words, claiming their war is with the west and all non-Muslims are the targets. This is evident by the countless terror attacks that have been hatched over the last 40 years. Now there is the growing threat of terrorists armed with nuclear weapons, something Iran has committed itself to. With such realities the world, especially the left must wake up to today’s true Islamic threat. No, terrorism did not begin with Iraq, nor will it end there…
