Though it has no bearing on anything of significance, a recent story by the BBC is worthy of note for its peculiarity. British television regulators (an inherit free speech inhibitor) have banned an Australian television ad from the British airwaves.
Apparently the ad promoting Australian tourism features Aussies carousing and drinking and asks the question: “so where the bloody hell are you?”
Regulators banned the Aussie tourism ad because of its use of a swear word. If you were thinking “hell” was the swear in question you’d be wrong. The British morality police objected to the use of the word “bloody.”
Who knew bloody was such an offensive word. What in bloody hell are we going to write now? For all the criticism of the FCC, the British may win the prize for heavy use of censorship on the public airwaves. In 1967, the British government banned a Beatles song for its use of the word “knickers.” Who knew, underwear was so taboo?
