It’s not unusual for a person to reject criticism of themselves, nor is it unusual when someone refuses to accept responsibility for their problems and it certainly isn’t unusual in this day and age for someone to blame others for their problems…but then there’s Congressman Cynthia McKinney, who raises the politics of distraction to an art form.

Earlier this week McKinney got into a scuffle with a capitol police officer that didn’t recognize her as one of the 535 members of congress. Apparently, upon being asked to stop by the officer, McKinney came out swinging. The entire incident was caught on tape and charges may soon be filed against McKinney.

This isn’t the first time McKinney has made a name for herself for the infamous, nor is it her first run-in with capitol law enforcement, indeed, McKinney is regarded as something of an embarrassment by many of her fellow members of Congress.

Until yesterday, McKinney remained silent on the issue, perhaps she was busy formulating the perfect Mussolini-esque excuse to justify her most recent tirade. Needless to say those who saw her press conference on Friday were not disappointed. According to McKinney, that she wasn’t recognized by the officer when she attempted to by-pass security was inexcusable. By McKinney’s reckoning this incident resulted from the fact that she was “black” and a “woman.” That’s right…McKinney blames racism for the fact that she struck a capitol police officer, thus ensuring her place in history as one of the most useless, imbecilic Congressmen in the history of the United States Congress, a more ridiculous premise could not be imagined had it been dreamed up by Dr. Seuss himself.

To add insult to injury, McKinney has vowed not only to fight any charges levied against her, but also to bring a suit against the officer. Sadly, McKinney’s using the race issue will ensure that she will never be held accountable for her actions, which were brought on by her ego and arrogance rather than her race.

Post Script: Exactly why is it that Congressmen are allowed to by-pass capitol security? They aren’t afforded such a luxury while traveling through the airport. Are we to believe that a Congressman is a model of morality and immune from criminality? History teaches otherwise.

You forgot to mention that she wasn't wearing her MoC lapel pin, so the police officer had no way of recognizing her.

And one would think that, after a New York City politician waived his own assassin past security a few years ago, that Congress would know better.

    One would think...

Well good point. I did a post about this and focused on the silliness of group identity politics at times. Good post you have here; I couldn't have said it better;)
