According to a number of reports, several countries, including France, Germany and Italy have dolled out huge sums to Iraqi insurgents in the form of ransoms paid to secure the release of hostages.

On average, nations as well as firms operating in Iraq, have paid sums ranging from 2.5 to 10 million dollars to secure the release of hostages held in the clutches of Iraq’s Islamic radicals.

It is no surprise that such kidnappings continue in Iraq, given the lucrative nature of the kidnapping business in that country.
