Is this a federal republic or is this Rome?

Under the concept of federalism, certain duties and responsibilities reside with the states, while the central government is entrusted with other responsibilities such as to coin money or declare war or conduct foreign relations, during the 20th and 21st centuries that once narrowly defined role for the central government has expanded exponentially. For over two centuries it has been up to the states to address issues such as marriage, now it seems “relationship police” in Congress have decide to usurp the intent of the Founding Fathers and 200 years of precedent in moving ahead with a proposal to enshrine heterosexual marriage in the US Constitution where it has no place.

If this amendment passes, any semblance that this nation is a federal republic will be destroyed, the states should collectively renounce any claim to sovereignty in any matters of governance and surrender all authority to a centralized governing authority in Washington, not unlike France or Fascist Italy. The question before us is not about same sex marriage, the question is whether this nation will continue to move forward in concentrating power in Washington or if the states will retain any functional responsibilities whatsoever, what’s’ next? National Public Schools, National Property Taxes, National Driver’s Licenses or National Fishing Licenses?

The issue of same sex marriage is yet another non-issue in Congress’s non-issue summer, by which the legislature will move ahead with passage of several meaningless pieces of legislation, designed solely to cow tow to bigots, idiots, imbeciles and the easily distracted (after all it is an election year), meanwhile issues of true importance: Social Security, Energy Dependence, Terrorism, High Taxation, wasteful government spending, etc…go unaddressed yet again.

"The American people support protecting traditional marriage, and we should give this amendment due consideration through the full legislative process." -Senator Sam Brownback

But do they support an increasing centralization of authority and if Americans are so supportive of traditional marriage why have they abandoned it in droves, why are they getting divorces in record numbers, why are they cheating on the spouses they vowed to love and cherish, why are they abusing wives and placing career and money ahead of family? Why not propose legislation to address these issue, or here’s a wacky thought, why not stop interfering with people’s personal lives and give the American people the freedom to make decisions for themselves, not only on the subject of marriage, but on social security and retirement savings, school choice and so on and so forth?
