Rash of deaths in Michigan attributed to bad drugs…a problem that solves itself

As a true Libertarian one must embrace the principle that it is not the duty of the state to dictate the actions of private citizens, so long as those actions do not infringe upon the rights of others, as such, this principle applies to legislation criminalizing drug use.

Does this mean boozers and drug addicts should be embraced by society? Certainly Not! Such people represent the bottom of the barrel in a civilized society. If they choose to make nothing of their lives, while ingesting toxins, however, that is their business, not the state’s, only when such activity threatens the rights or safety of others should government intervene.

The war on drugs, especially in its present form cannot succeed. The money wasted battling drug lords in Latin America and dealers on the streets of America would be better served in treatment programs, which can produce measurable results. And what of those drags on society who remain dependent on such toxins? As a case in Michigan points out, such problems sometimes have a way of solving themselves. Authorities in that state report at least 48 people have died since mid-May from a lethal concoction of heroin, cocaine and the prescription drug fentanyl. Officials in Wayne County, Michigan noticed a spike in drug related deaths on May 19th when 12 people died in a 24hr period and subsequently issued a public health alert, warning residents of the dangers of street drugs. The Phalanx ponders the following incentive, perhaps cruel question: why warn anyone? These stoners represent the very least society has to offer if they choose to voluntarily engage in well recognized life threatening behavior, why interfere? This is the fun they want…let them have their fun, and the nightmares that come with it..

Its very hypocritical. If they want to control the "quality" of drugs, legalize them and FDA them... agreed.
