At this moment, Mexico is in the midst of a recount to determine who will be the next president, with leftist Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador and conservative Felipe Calderon vying for the top job. A final outcome is expected later this week.

Naturally this election is being watched by concerned parties in the US and throughout the Americas, especially in Venezuela, where the Latin American Mussolini himself, Hugo Chavez, has overtly supported Obrador’s candidacy.

While the conservative Calderon’s candidacy may be preferred by those who adopt a Phalanxian view of the world, in reality it makes little difference. Irrespective of the outcome of these elections, certain factors will remain unchanged in Mexico…the flow of illegals into this country will continue unabated, the Mexican government will continue to be corrupt and inefficient and Mexican police will continue to serve as the principle criminals in that country.

As long as Mexico refuses to embrace true systemic change, the country will continue to grapple with high crime and poverty, as it has for decades.
