First day of school

Today is a day dreaded by many children in many parts of the country…the first day of school. From now through Labor Day, one school district after another will open their doors across the country to another year of mediocrity and catering to the lowest common denominator. Once again students in the 12 grade will struggle with 8th grade math, students will devote untold sums in planning for prom but little in planning for exams and parents demand excellence in sports and make no demands in academics.
Today America is in peril and much of that can be attributed to declining standards. Yes schools do test more, but that has come at the expense of academic rigor. Parents, by and large, have relegated the responsibility of educating their children to local schools, who must also welcome all students and their personality dysfunctions.
This year, the US will again spend far more money to education our nation’s youth than most every other country on earth with little in the way of measurable results, while leftists scoff at alternatives such as school choice, vouchers and so forth.
