As anyone who has ever had a sick child in need of medical care can attest. Parents and guardians are frequently called upon to give their consent (except of course in cases of life threatening emergencies) before children undergo major medical procedures, such as any form of surgery.
Now I’m no anti-Abortion zealot, while being personally opposed to the practice, I also believe it should not be a duty of the state to impose prohibitions on personal liberty. Especially when those liberties do not infringe upon the rights of others.
By the same token, it is entirely appropriate for medical personal to obtain parental permission before performing procedures on minor children, why then is it so controversial when states impose laws requiring parental consent for abortion? Isn’t abortion major surgery? While there are certainly a few cases in which an abortion becomes a matter of life or death for the mother. In the vast majority of cases, however, this is not the case. So what makes abortion unique and why would those who would rise up in protest at the thought of a doctor performing certain procedures on a minor, why would these same people oppose parental consent on the topic of abortion?
Something certainly is foul in Denmark…

Remember Bill Clinton, he’s the disgraced former president who now portrays himself as an elder statesman, an elder statesman whose legacy of foreign policy blunders and erratic musings is the stuff of legend, an elder statesman so desperate to return to the White House that he champions is socialist wife as the best person for the job…yes that Bill Clinton, the same Bill Clinton whose hypocrisy knows no bounds (not unlike most politicians)…yes that Bill Clinton.
Well it seems Clinton has taken time out of his busy schedule of doing whatever it is he does on a daily basis to lambaste the US missile defense plan…why, because its supported by George W. Bush, why else.
As is the case with most leftist attacks, they often decry the very things they once supported when their team held the White House, such is certainly the case with regard to Clinton and the US missile defense shield. During Clinton’s term in office he invested heavily in the program even going so far as to address the Russian parliament (the Duma) on the merits of the program.
Now it seems, however, Clinton’s feelings have changed as he now maligns the program as a waste of money, surely this change in Clinton’s opinions are largely based on quiet reflection on the merits of the project rather than any political inclinations and certainly had Gore won the White House his feelings would be no different.

The world is filled with demagogues and tyrants who frequently use the forum of international affairs to distract their downtrodden, freedom deprived citizens from domestic oppression by exaggerating each and every situation to paint someone (other than themselves) as a threat. Such skilled demagogues include the likes of Hugo Chavez, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and of course the Authoritarian Vladimir Putin.
Recently, Putin has not hesitated to paint the US as an enemy, decrying US policies and denouncing the US as imperialist, while at the same time Putin comits the very same imperialist acts he frequently decries. With Russia’s vast wealth in natural resources, Putin has bullied scores of former Soviet republics along its borders, all in an increasing attempt to increase its once vast sphere of influence.
From presidential elections in Georgia and the Ukraine to war memorials in Estonia, there is no end to Putin’s imperialistic ambitions. Now we have word that Putin plans to target European cities with Russian ballistic missiles if the US proceeds with its plans to deploy a missile shield in Europe. And a collective yawn goes up across Europe. This gesture is purely symbolic. Assuming Putin can be taken at his word (which is a major assumption in and of itself) and Russian missiles are currently target European cities, the time it would take to target such cities in the event of a strike can be measured in milliseconds. Perhaps if Putin spent a little less time orchestrating the murder of British citizens or trampling on republican governments in Eastern Europe, perhaps Putin’s legacy as a tyrant would not be so secure.
